LAKE CONSEQUENCE
The Hollywood Reporter ~ Friday, February 26, 1993 `Lake Consequence' ~ Review by By Rick Sherwood. Indeed, this Showtime original is a true erotic thriller. It's sensual, suspenseful, and surprisingly intriguing, a carefully told story that's both exciting and frightening. It definitely carries that unique stamp of filmmaker Zalman King, who is able to turn this production into the kind of offbeat R-rated erotica in the tradition of such efforts as "Wild Orchid" and "9 1/2 Weeks.” Like those films, this one works n many levels. It's not quite as deep, broad or far-out, but it does well to add an intellectual layer that helps in its exploration of good and evil, right and wrong, pleasure and emotional pain. This story finds a young woman literally swept up from her suburban tract home and plunked down in a place of fantasy and excitement - a place that allows her to live out her dreams and sometimes relive her nightmares. There, she's haunted by desire and away with its tale of sexual desire and action, and crippled by flashbacks that ultimately provide the punctuated answer to the riddles of this story. It's a dark and very moody tale and has a look characterized by a starkness that heightens the feel of this film. The fine cast is led by a wonderfully strong performance from Joan Severance, a former Playboy cover model, who provides her character with dimension and complexity as she searches for sexual satisfaction and sexual healing. Billy Zane, as the strong, silent and slightly scary stranger, does well to contribute to this film's gritty, dark and engrossing feel as well. May Karasun, another woman thrown into the unusual mix, does well in her supporting role. FOR INFORMATION ON THIS TITLECONTACT US© The 39 Production Company Ltd.- All rights reserved |
